Legality of Mapping with UAVs

Drone Ban

In recent times, there has been increased pressure to ban foreign unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) from operating in the United States. This is due to the Department of Defense (DoD) and other federal entities' concern over countries, such as China, gaining geospatial information on highly classified locations within the United States. It has become very clear the US will likely ban all foreign UAV companies- such as DJI- from selling and being able to operate their drones within the US. This may include purchases made before the drone ban goes into effect, basically grounding all DJI and other Chinese drones indefinitely.

The Good News

The good news is that FinBee TAC utilizes UAVs that are vetted by the DoD and which follow strict guidelines that track the flight path, notify the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and adhere to all local airspace guidelines. Before we fly, we go through an extensive process with the FAA to approve a flight path. The FAA requires information such as transponder info for tracking, airspace level we are operating in, when we will be operating, and a reason for operating. It takes some time to set up these flight plans, if for emergency management situations they will be approved sooner. Manned aircraft used by Eagle View and Near Map go through the same process as FinBee TAC. This ensures all legal guidelines are adhered to and will allow FinBee to operate for many more decades to come.

Drone bans are going to happen in the near future and will continue on. FinBee TAC and our valued clients are protected, and we will continue to adhere to Federal requirements. We want to ensure you our operations are completely legal and will continue to be. Please reach out with any questions!
